Jane Kim

Jane Kim is a Partner at Wigdor LLP.  With 15 years of high-stakes litigation experience, Jane zealously represents individuals seeking to hold private and public actors accountable for grave abuses of power and trust.  A former federal prosecutor, Jane is a distinguished litigator and trial attorney who has devoted her career to seeking justice and advocating for victims and survivors of human trafficking, sexual abuse and assault, workplace discrimination and misconduct, and civil and human rights violations.

Prior to joining Wigdor, Jane served as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) for eleven years, where she supervised, investigated, and prosecuted some of the country’s most high-profile, complex, and sensitive matters.  At SDNY, Jane served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, where she oversaw investigations and prosecutions across the Office, authorized charging decisions, and advised teams on investigation and litigation strategies.  For seven years, Jane served as SDNY’s Human Trafficking Coordinator, during which time she led, built, and significantly expanded the Office’s human trafficking and sex crimes investigations and prosecutions.  She regularly trained and advised prosecutors, law enforcement officers and agents, and senior government officials on best practices to effectively investigate, charge, and litigate sex crimes and civil rights cases.  Jane also served in SDNY’s national security/terrorism and public corruption units, where she led the investigations of former and current public officials, CEOs, domestic and international terrorists, corporations, medical institutions, law firms, and religious and community leaders for abuses of power and public trust.  Jane has significant experience investigating and litigating complex cases involving public corruption, bribery, national security, financial fraud, corporate misconduct, forced labor, sex crimes, extortion, hate crimes, gender- and race-motivated offenses, and civil rights violations.  For example, Jane led the prosecutions of a former OB/GYN who sexually abused numerous patients under the guise of medical care, and a pain management doctor who sexually abused and exploited dozens of patients, including in exchange for pain medication.  At SDNY, Jane tried seven federal jury trials to verdict and argued and/or briefed over 13 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jane was a litigation associate at a leading global law firm, where she maintained a broad-based civil litigation and investigations practice.  She represented Fortune 500 companies, including media and technology clients, through all phases of litigation, including at trial and on appeal.  She also maintained an active pro bono practice, which included representing victims and survivors of human trafficking, domestic/intimate partner violence, and gender- and race-based discrimination and violence.

Earlier in her career, Jane clerked for the Honorable Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Jane led the following representative matters prior to joining Wigdor LLP:

  • Investigated, prosecuted, and tried a former OB/GYN who sexually abused hundreds of patients, under the guise of medical care and over the course of more than 20 years, resulting in a guilty verdict on all counts of conviction following a jury trial, as well as a significant sentence.
  • Investigated, charged, and prosecuted a former pain management doctor who sexually abused and assaulted patients across multiple medical institutions, including in exchange for opioid prescriptions.
  • Investigated, prosecuted, and tried a violent sex trafficker who operated a national commercial sex business through the use of force, fraud, and coercion, and abused numerous women, resulting in a guilty verdict on all counts of conviction following a jury trial, as well as a significant sentence.
  • Investigated, charged, and prosecuted a former professor in connection with his sexual assault of multiple female victims, resulting in a guilty plea and a significant sentence.
  • Investigated, charged, and prosecuted a domestic terrorist who sent 16 improvised explosive devices to politicians and high-profile citizens across the country who had expressed views associated with the Democratic party, resulting in a guilty plea and a significant sentence.
  • Investigated, charged, and prosecuted the CFO of a multinational media company for money laundering and bank fraud offenses involving over $67 million in unemployment insurance benefits and other fraud proceeds.
  • Investigated, charged, and prosecuted the owner of a telemarketing call center business and the treasurer of multiple political action committees for defrauding thousands of donors of millions of dollars through misleading fundraising campaigns, resulting in a guilty plea, a significant sentence, and significant forfeiture and restitution orders.

Jane has engaged in public/community service and volunteer work for much of her life.  For example:

  • Jane represented pro bono a survivor of domestic/intimate partner violence who fled to the United States from Singapore with her son in a federal bench trial in the Southern District of New York and on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. For her outstanding representation of and advocacy for victims of gender-based violence, Jane received the Above and Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Award from Sanctuary for Families.
  • Jane led an initiative with various law firms in New York to provide pro bono counsel to trafficking victims through New York’s Human Trafficking Intervention Courts with Sanctuary for Families.
  • At the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), Jane served as the Office’s Human Trafficking Coordinator, and built and significantly expanded the Office’s human trafficking and sex abuse program, advising the Office’s leadership and AUSAs, initiating and managing over a hundred investigations, training AUSAs and law enforcement partners, developing a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to victim cases, authorizing immigration certifications, and working with NGOs, task forces, and community organizations. At SDNY, Jane also served as a member of the Office’s Whistleblower Committee, and as the Office’s Young Adult Opportunity Program Coordinator.
  • Earlier in her career, Jane served as a volunteer foster care case reviewer, rape crisis counselor, and suicide prevention counselor. She also volunteered for a decade as a tutor and mentor to students in under-resourced communities in Massachusetts and New York.
