Today, Wigdor filed an amended complaint to address arguments made within The Dream’s motion to dismiss. Wigdor Partner, Meredith A. Firetog offers further detail:
We are amending our complaint to bolster and clarify Ms. Mangroe’s already strong allegations. Ultimately, however, Defendant’s motion to dismiss was both legally and morally reprehensible. To be clear, Wigdor pursues cases against influential people who abuse their power regardless of their race or ethnicity, and our pursuit of justice against Dream is in many ways no different from our pursuits against Harvey Weinstein, James Dolan, and Leon Black. To suggest otherwise is offensive, particularly to our client, herself a woman of color. It is also important for us to note that Dream’s counsel’s insistence that Ms. Mangroe was a willing participant in her trafficking is a shameful resort to victim-blaming. Survivors of sexual violence often have complicated relationships with their abusers, as such abuse frequently happens in the context of something that resembles a loving or caring relationship, and abusers are often master manipulators. To cherry-pick a few positive messages, when placed in juxtaposition with the plethora of evidence to the contrary, is both inappropriate at this stage in litigation and is also shocking conduct coming from someone who claims to be an advocate for women.
