David A. Schmutzer is an Associate at Wigdor LLP.
Experience and Types of Cases
Prior to joining Wigdor LLP, Mr. Schmutzer clerked for the Honorable Brenda K. Sannes in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Mr. Schmutzer was also awarded the University of California Office of the President Fellowship and spent one year with the MacArthur Justice Center’s Supreme Court and Appellate Program in Washington, D.C., where he litigated civil rights appeals on behalf of victims of law enforcement misconduct. While in law school, Mr. Schmutzer interned for various public interest organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California, the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, and the Los Angeles Center for Community Law and Action.
Education
Mr. Schmutzer received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law with a specialization in public interest law and policy. During law school, Mr. Schmutzer served on the Law Review and the Criminal Justice Law Review and participated in the Civil Rights and Police Accountability Clinic. Mr. Schmutzer received his B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago, graduating with honors.

Mr. Schmutzer is admitted to practice law in New York and before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
